St Johnstone defender Richard Foster has been quoted as saying by Deadline News that it remains to be seen if Rangers manager Mark Warburton can handle the pressure.

Warburton has been in charge of Rangers since the summer of 2015 and has done a brilliant job at Ibrox so far.

The Gers won the Scottish Championship title with ease last season and are playing in the Scottish Premiership this campaign.

Rangers’ start to the 2016-17 campaign has not been great, and there are doubts whether they would be able to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title.

The Ibrox outfit went down 5-1 to Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Foster, a former Rangers player, has said that it remains to be seen if Warburton can handle the pressure.

The 31-year-old right-back, now at Scottish Premiership rivals St Johnstone, has suggested that pressure will increase on the Englishman if the gap between Rangers and Celtic increase, while also commenting on the Ibrox club’s fans.

“Rangers fans want to see Rangers back to where they were, up at the top of the league, challenging Celtic for the bragging rights in Glasgow and Scotland,” Deadline News quotes Foster as saying. “They’re very vociferous and they don’t hide their opinion.

“If the gap starts to widen between themselves and Celtic then there will be more grumblings, certainly from the Rangers fans. It remains to be seen whether Warburton can handle that extra pressure.”

“It’s four points at the moment, with Celtic having a game in hand, and the further Celtic get away there will be more pressure on every single game,” added Foster. “He will have to learn to deal with the criticism if Rangers don’t win.”

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 12 points from four matches.

Rangers are currently third in the standings with eight points from five games.
