Andy Robertson has started life in a perfect fashion with Liverpool this season, but the same can’t be said for Scotland.
Arne Slot has taken to the Liverpool job like a duck to water because he has won his opening three Premier League matches after he replaced Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool outclassed Manchester United before the international break, with the players heading to their respective countries full of confidence.
But, for Roberton, it has been quickly taken out of his system after his Scotland side suffered two late and morale-sapping defeats in the UEFA Nations League.
Starting with a stoppage-time defeat to Poland on home soil, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored career goal number 901 to help Portugal come from behind and claim three points in Lisbon on Sunday.
Robertson picked up a yellow card and played the entire match, with the left-back handed a rating of 6/10 by Edinburgh News.
They highlighted the 30-year-old’s lack of attacking threat, with Scott McTominay opening the scoring early in the first half, but Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo crushed their chances.
The Scotsman agreed and handed him the same rating, with the skipper’s final ball criticised, as Roberto Martinez’s men enjoyed a mammoth 69% possession.
Andy Robertson’s Scotland lose to Portugal
‘Cap number 76 to equal Paul McStay as Scotland’s joint-fifth most capped international,’ wrote Edinburgh News.
‘Got forward to good effect, but didn’t pose his usual threat from dead ball/set pieces. Booked for a late challenge on Neves shortly after the restart. Important clearance in stoppage time as Portugal pressed for a third goal’.
‘The Scotland captain was rarely found wanting defensively and drove the team forward down the left on occasions,’ wrote the Scotsman. ‘But his final ball could have been better with too many loose passes giving Portugal the chance to counter-attack’.

Liverpool after the international break
There are some big games for Liverpool after the international break, including a huge Champions League clash away at AC Milan.
But, before that, they face Nottingham Forest and then Bournemouth, including a League Cup game against West Ham United – all at Anfield.
