Scottie Scheffler’s 29th birthday is likely one he would rather forget, after he posted an unusually poor third round at the Travelers Championship.

The world number one opened with a triple-bogey seven and never really recovered, signing for a two-over 72 that all but ended his chances of contending at TPC River Highlands.

Even so, Scheffler shot only his fifth over-par round in his last 55 starts – a testament to the level he’s maintained over such a long stretch.

Remarkably, the 29-year-old has finished inside the top 25 in all 14 events he’s played this season.

Before the round, Justin Thomas had praised his consistency, though on Saturday, that reliability deserted him.

Yet even after a day when nothing went his way, Scheffler showed late on why he rarely stays down for long.

By the time he reached the 18th, Scheffler’s hopes of adding a 17th PGA Tour title had already slipped away.

Still, Scheffler never lost focus. After draining a birdie putt to finish his round, he walked straight over to Ted Scott and gave his caddie a fist bump – a small gesture, but revealing.

It matched the energy he brings whether he’s leading or fighting to break par. That intent is one reason he’s now made 58 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler’s consistency on the PGA Tour deserves recognition

It’s not just the top-25 finishes this season that stand out. Scheffler hasn’t missed a cut since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

In golf, a sport where even the best go through slumps, holding that level for three straight years is incredible.

Scheffler’s 2025 results so far underline how rare his consistency is:

Expect Scheffler to put Saturday behind him quickly. He will already be focused on finishing strong – and you can bet he’ll keep grinding, no matter where he is on the leaderboard.
