Scottie Scheffler is clearly the best golfer in the world right now. Since picking up his first major at The Masters in 2022, Scheffler has consistently been ahead of the pack.

Scheffler has strung together 12 straight top-8 finishes on the PGA Tour, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he extended that run to 14 before June wraps up.

This season, he’s already picked up four wins on tour, including two more majors. It’s some of the most consistent golf we’ve seen since Tiger Woods was dominating the sport. The worrying part for his competitors is that he keeps improving year after year.

Scottie Scheffler’s coach points to key change in his game

Scheffler has been working with Randy Smith since he was seven years old, back in 2003. Smith understands Scheffler’s game better than anyone, so when he speaks about the world number one, it’s worth listening to.

Just last month, Smith said that Scheffler is a better player now than he was in 2025, even though he hasn’t matched last year’s win total yet.

And during an appearance on Mark Immelman’s YouTube channel, Smith pointed out one area where the Dallas native has made real strides in recent years, beyond just his putting.

“I think what we do too many times as regular players, because they are used to getting on the driving range, putting the sticks down, there is the target, perfect stance, perfect alignment and hit shots at the target and hope like hell it goes there.

“There is not much creation inside their shot. They just swing and hope basically that it goes straight. When it starts going straight on the range, therefore I am doing great but you go on the golf course and it never happens. The lies change, its uphill, downhill, things like that. You don’t get that same opportunity.”

“What Scottie does I think a great job of – and he’s already done a great job at this but he’s gotten so much better over two or three years is that everything is dissected.”

Scottie Scheffler has taken his game to another level with each passing year. Making noticeable improvements year after year when you’re already at the top of the sport is no small feat.

If he keeps this up through 2026 and beyond, we could be looking at one of the most sustained runs of dominance in recent memory.

Scheffler is already recognised as the best player in the world, and it can’t be easy for everyone else to watch him keep raising his own bar.
