Scottie Scheffler bounced back from a rough opening round at the Genesis Invitational to finish inside the top 15, continuing his remarkable run of consistency.
Now, Scheffler’s stretch of consecutive top-10 finishes is over. The last time the 29-year-old was outside that range was at The Players Championship in March last year.
This week, he settled for a share of 12th, but it was a solid effort given he started five-over through ten holes before play was suspended on Thursday.
He also lost strokes on approach this week, something that has been rare during his strong run over the past year.
Scottie Scheffler’s struggles at the 2026 Genesis Invitational stand out in his career

Scheffler finished the past three seasons ranked first on the PGA Tour for strokes gained approach, so it was surprising to see him struggle at Riviera.
According to Data Golf, it is also the first time he has lost strokes with his irons over a full event since the 2024 BMW Championship.
That week at Castle Pines was a frustrating one for him, as he never quite adjusted to the altitude change and struggled to keep his emotions in check.
The last five PGA Tour events where Scottie Scheffler has lost strokes to the field with his approach play
No one else could open a season with a win and no finish worse than 12th in four starts, yet still have people asking what is wrong.
But Scheffler has been so good over the past few years that it is only natural to wonder why things have not quite come together for him at the start of 2026.
Three of the last five tournaments in which the world number one has lost strokes to the field with his approach play came back in 2022.
Even so, it would not be surprising if Scheffler worked it out soon and got back to his usual form.
The rest of the Tour will not be looking forward to when that happens.
