The world No. 1 has carved out his dominance through elite-level precision, whether he is splitting fairways or attacking pins with his irons. That trademark consistency was on full display during his record-breaking win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

At The Open, he once again demonstrated how effective he is with approach play. This time, it was paired with a hot putter, making him nearly unstoppable that week.

Scheffler’s real strength lies in how well he avoids mistakes. He’s always giving himself a chance to score by keeping things simple and staying out of trouble.

He’s even gone on record explaining what goes through his mind during approach shots – something that could be useful for any amateur trying to improve their decision-making on the course.

Anyone watching Scottie Scheffler can’t help but wish they could strike the ball like him.

He’s always finding the right spots on the green, and even when he misses, it’s never by much.

Back in 2024, while talking with TaylorMade, Scheffler explained how he approaches his shots into the green.

“Basically my thought process is coming into the green I want to hit the highest percentage shot possible, that is going to get me at the worst to be on the green. Typically I am working the ball from the middle of the green towards the pin and the shot I try and hit depends completely on how I feel over the ball and a lot of that depends on where the pin location is,” Scheffler said.

“When the location is on the right side of the green, like this front right pin. I believe I have 161 yards to that pin. Since it’s on the right side it is an in-between number for me where I could hit wedge and it may or may not get there, but if I hit nine iron I know the ball is going to get there and it’s a lot easier for me to take some off than add a bunch of yardage to a shot.

“In order for me to add yardage I have got to hit a draw, especially with a shorter club, so at 161 I am going to take nine iron and in order for me to take something off on it, I am going to choke down on it and make a touch of a smaller swing and I am going to try and see that ball curve from the middle of the green towards the pin.”

There’s no one playing better than Scottie Scheffler right now. The world number one continues to be in a league of his own with his ball-striking and approach play in 2025.

While he might not lead every statistical category, Scheffler remains at the top of most, and the numbers are there to prove it.

Scheffler sits second in proximity to the hole, sixth in GIR percentage, first overall for SG approach, third from inside 100 yards, and 26th from outside 100 yards.

And when you factor that into everything else he does so well – first for SG total, first for SG off the tee, and first in scoring – it becomes clear why he’s been so dominant this season.
