Scottie Scheffler will play alongside Wyndham Clark in the final group of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills on Sunday.

Clark posted a third-round 70 on Saturday at Shinnecock, while Scheffler’s 69 saw him end the day as one of only two players to shoot under par.

With just 18 holes remaining, Clark is clearly the strong favorite to win the US Open, but Scheffler obviously cannot be ruled out.

The world number one, who turns 30 on Sunday, is sitting six shots adrift of Wyndham Clark heading into the final round of the US Open.

Scheffler has been impressed by Clark’s golf at the US Open so far this week, but he’ll be hoping to overtake him on Sunday at Shinnecock.

Whether Scottie Scheffler wants to play with Wyndham Clark at the US Open

Scheffler’s 69 on Saturday was good enough to secure a final group pairing with Clark on Sunday at Shinnecock Hills.

The Dallas native spoke to reporters after his third round and responded when asked how he feels about the prospect of playing alongside Clark during the final round of the US Open.

Yeah, if you’re in the final group, that’s less people you’ve got to chase, he said.

Yeah, it’s definitely better than being — I don’t know what the term would be, but not in the last group, further away.

Scheffler will get to see what Clark is doing close up on Sunday and if he is able to apply some early pressure to the 2023 US Open champion, anything could happen.

I’ll go hit a couple balls, hit a few putts, he replied.

Just part of my kind of normal routine just to cool down.

Then tomorrow, with kids, I’m not really going to have too much downtime. Chase around my son for a bit.

Sam (Burns) should be at the house for a while, as well, and we’ll have breakfast and hang out.

Yeah, watch a little golf, see how the course is playing. That’s about it.
