Scottie Scheffler, now with four majors to his name, has become known for his composure and calm under pressure, making winning look routine.

His run over the past few years has been remarkable, and as we look ahead to 2026, there is little reason to doubt that more titles are on the way.

But every journey starts somewhere, and for Scheffler, it all began with his breakthrough at Augusta in 2022.

He ended up getting the job done without too much trouble, holding off Rory McIlroy to claim his first major title and green jacket.

But that Sunday could have gone differently if he had not managed to keep his nerves under control before teeing off.

While Scheffler is generally known for keeping his cool, we have seen a different side of him recently, especially since becoming a father.

It turns out that side of him has always been there. The world number one himself admitted he was struggling emotionally before the final round back at Augusta National in 2022.

He even needed a few words from Meredith to settle his nerves before heading to one of the biggest rounds of his life.

“We went and got some food. I spilled my dinner in the car on the way home, and that was extraordinarily frustrating.

“You can see Meredith is still laughing at me. She thought it was the funniest thing ever; I didn’t think it was so funny at the time.”

Scheffler then spoke about how emotional he had felt on the morning of his final round, saying: “I cried like a baby this morning. I was so stressed out. I didn’t know what to do.

“I was sitting there telling Meredith: ‘I don’t think I’m ready for this. I’m not ready, I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff,’ and I just felt overwhelmed. She told me: ‘Who are you to say that you are not ready?’ Gosh, it was a long morning.”

Looking back now, it is strange to think that Scheffler ever doubted himself or his place in the game.

Sure, it was his first major, but considering the form he had shown leading up to Augusta, he was always going to be among the favourites in 2022.

Since then, Scheffler has left no doubt. He has gone on to win three more majors, including another green jacket. His PGA Tour record speaks for itself, too – filled with victories and milestones that underline just how dominant he has become.

The 29-year-old has been the star of modern golf and looking ahead to 2026, there is no reason to think that will change any time soon. Even if he does not add another major title next year, there will be plenty more chances for him before his career is done.
