Scottie Scheffler is Bryson DeChambeau’s most recent Ryder Cup partner, with the duo playing two matches together at Whistling Straits in 2021.
It is hard to overstate how much has changed since then. Scheffler and DeChambeau went unbeaten in their two fourball sessions, but at that time, the world number one had not yet won on the PGA Tour and his selection by Steve Stricker had raised a few eyebrows.
DeChambeau was still a divisive figure. He later joined LIV Golf and eventually became one of the most popular players in the game. By 2024, he had added a second US Open title to his CV.
Scottie Scheffler explains why he is looking forward to seeing Bryson DeChambeau back in Ryder Cup action

There is some uncertainty about how much we will see DeChambeau on the course this week. Plenty of people expect him to play all five sessions, but finding him a steady partner for foursomes is not exactly easy.
Despite losing both of his alternate shot matches in 2018, Scheffler stated on Tuesday that the 32-year-old is a valuable asset to have on your team at the Ryder Cup.
“Yeah, I mean, I think Bryson is a tremendous competitor. He’s a great partner as well. I partnered with him in 2021 at Whistling Straits and he was a tremendous guy to be out on the golf course with. He’s a great guy and a good friend and he’s been great in our team room,” he said.
“Like I said, he brings a lot of energy, the people love him, and I think he loves the opportunity to be able to represent his country. He’s a multiple-time U.S. Open winner, and that means a lot to him. Being an American I think means a lot to him as well.
“I’m excited to kind of unleash him this week.”

DeChambeau is not the same player who first appeared at Le Golf National in 2018. That week did not help his reputation, as he was paired with Phil Mickelson. And a few months ago, he revealed that Mickelson needed a pick-me-up after one particularly rough round.
| Year | Format | Playing partner | Opponent | Result |
| 2018 | Foursomes | Phil Mickelson | Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren | L 5&4 |
| 2018 | Foursomes | Tiger Woods | Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari | L 5&4 |
| 2021 | Fourballs | Scottie Scheffler | Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton | AS |
| 2021 | Fourballs | Scottie Scheffler | Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland | W 3&1 |
This time around, there will not be any issues finding someone willing to play alongside him. Ben Griffin has already put his hand up to pair with DeChambeau.
On the other hand, Cameron Young uses a similar golf ball to him this season, which could make them a natural fit for Friday’s opening session.
Since his last appearance in the Ryder Cup four years ago, DeChambeau has not just become one of the USA’s top performers – he has also developed into the kind of player that Bradley will want on the course as much as possible.
