Scottie Scheffler has been the world’s number one golfer for 164 consecutive weeks.

Since February 2022, Scheffler has 20 PGA Tour wins to his name including four major championships.

However, the 30-year-old has experienced a challenging season on the PGA Tour in 2026, by his standards at least.

Scottie Scheffler has only won once on the PGA Tour this season, but he is still sitting top of the FedEx Cup standings, with nine top-5 finishes to his name in 14 starts.

The world number one from Dallas, Texas, is such an intriguing character in the sense that winning golf tournaments doesn’t actually define him as a person.

Scheffler has the best win-rate since Tiger Woods, but it’s very clear that his family and home life mean so much more to him than lifting trophies.

The 20-time PGA Tour winner has actually received some criticism for that attitude, believe it or not, and he has been lambasted for his reluctance to travel outside the United States to compete as well.

Scottie Scheffler comments on playing outside of the United States

The Texan spoke to reporters on Wednesday ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open.

Scheffler responded when asked whether he would like to play more international events moving forward.

It definitely interests me, he said.

I’d like to see how it shapes out the next couple of years. There’s a lot of places I think I’d like to play.

There’s always just, you know, the time and the place for me. I’m at a time in my life where I have a young family at home and young kids.

Those are times — the fall is a special time for our family. It’s where we can really check out and be together, and I get to spend a lot of time with my kids. So I hold those moments pretty sacred.

But at the same time I love golf and I would love to be able to play more internationally. Like Australia; New Zealand is a place we would love to be able to go to. My wife has always wanted to go to New Zealand.

But like I said, I love this style of golf, and I feel like it’s pretty unique to here. But going to play the Sandbelt in Australia would be pretty special as well.

Hopefully I can find the time. It’s definitely an intriguing part of the schedule and yeah, it definitely interests me, as well.

Scottie Scheffler needs to back up his words with actions

Now is the time for Scheffler to put his money where his mouth is.

There are ample opportunities for Scheffler to play internationally if he really wants to.

How about the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in September? Or the Amgen Irish Open, also in September?

Scheffler could play the Alfred Dunhill Links in Scotland in October if he chose to. Or how about the Crown Australian Open at Royal Melbourne in December?

There are plenty of options out there for Scottie Scheffler, if he really does have ambitions to play a more international schedule.

Now the onus is on Scheffler to prove there is substance to his claims about playing outside of the United States more often.
