Scottie Scheffler had an incredible third round at The Masters, but it was immediately undone afterwards.

After shooting a 65 on Saturday to bring himself to seven-under par, Scheffler responded to a seemingly innocuous question about how much better his round could have been by saying, “That’s just a terrible question. Next question. Awful.”

It was a comment unbecoming of a world number one, as he scoffed at a reporter who had asked a good question. In fact, in Scheffler’s next answer he admitted that the question wasn’t bad after all.

The post-round talk around Scheffler should have been praise for his lowest ever round at The Masters, but instead fans took to social media to slam the American.

Scottie Scheffler slammed for snapping at reporter

Golf fans flocked to X to criticise Scheffler for this blunt retort to a reasonable question. One fan said, “Perfectly fine question…enough of this guy”.

Another said that this is becoming a trend for Scheffler during his run of poor form this year: “I don’t think this was a bad question. Scottie has been feisty on the mic recently. It’s obvious he doesn’t want the attention being the number one player in the world brings.

“He’s basically the golf version of Jokic. Maybe being the Top Dog for so long is finally getting to him?”

Other fans were less kind to Scheffler, with one posting: “I hope the next question was, “why are you such an a—-e?”

Another fan said, “The thing is golfers have been coddled entitled babies most of their lives. Heaven forbid someone insinuate as good as his round was it should have been lower.”

Other fans, however, took Scheffler’s side, saying the question was disrespectful after such a great round.

One said, “I mean, that’s an awful question lol he shot the low round of the tournament, why would you phrase it like he had a bad round? You could easily ask it in a way that makes him answer if he thought he could have went even lower without saying it the way he did.”

Another fan also came to Scheffler’s defense, adding, “He shot 65 at Augusta. You don’t ask ‘what it could have been.’ lol it’s 65 at Augusta.”

Scottie Scheffler apologises for response to reporter

Later in the interview, Scheffler seemed to regret snapping at the question.

When asked another question he clearly didn’t like, he responded, “I already ripped on one question that wasn’t that bad, so I’m not going to rip on another one.”

It seems that Scheffler was still running with adrenaline after his third round and snapped back unnecessarily, but it still wasn’t a great look.

Imagine how he’d have been after a poor round!
