Scottie Scheffler managed to force a playoff with Matt Fitzpatrick on Sunday at the RBC Heritage after shooting a final round 67.

However, Fitzpatrick got the better of Scheffler in a playoff after the Englishman made birdie on the first extra hole of the sudden-death shootout.

It was the 32-year-old’s second win at the RBC Heritage, while the world number one had to make do with his second consecutive runner-up finish.

Scheffler was hunting down his 21st PGA Tour victory at the RBC Heritage on Sunday, but he came up just short in the end as Fitzpatrick secured the title.

Scottie Scheffler was full of praise for Fitzpatrick after the RBC Heritage but failing to win for the second time this season must have really hurt him inside.

And after his second-place finish at Harbour Town, the 29-year-old actually equalled a long-standing PGA Tour record.

The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, is clearly trending in the right direction now after a spell of form, by his standards at least.

Scheffler finished in second place at The Masters last week, one shot adrift of eventual champion Rory McIlroy.

And he followed that up with another runner-up finish at the RBC Heritage on Sunday.

In doing so, the world number one became the first player since Greg Norman in 1986 to record back-to-back runner-up finishes at The Masters and the RBC Heritage.

Scheffler has once again proved his outstanding consistency this season.

He has not been outside the top 25 in any event since August 2024 and he has made 72 cuts in a row.

This season, he has one win and five top-five finishes to his name in just eight starts. That’s quite some slump!

Scheffler’s game is trending very nicely right now and it should surprise nobody when he chalks off a few big wins between now and the end of the season.

Let’s face it, the vast majority of professional golfers would be more than happy with one win and five top-five finishes over the course of five years or so.

Scheffler has managed that in just a few months so far this year and the worrying thing for his rivals is that he seems to be warming up at just the right time, with major season now well and truly upon us.
