Scottie Scheffler missed his first cut since August 2022 this week at the Scottish Open.

Scheffler’s streak of 78 consecutive cuts made came to an end at The Renaissance Club after rounds of 68 and 72.

The 30-year-old world number one has not been at his best this season, and his average play finally caught up with him at the Scottish Open.

Scheffler actually made a solid start to the Genesis Scottish Open with a round of 68 on Thursday.

However, Scottie Scheffler wasn’t entirely happy with his golf on day one of the Scottish Open, and he will be even more concerned now following his second round.

The good news is that he will get extra preparation time at Royal Birkdale, but it goes without saying that he would have preferred to make the cut at The Renaissance Club rather than miss it.

Scottie Scheffler confirms if he’ll come back to the Scottish Open next year

Scheffler faced up to the media after missing his first cut in nearly four years on the PGA Tour this week in Scotland.

The world number one was asked whether he will be back at the Scottish Open next year.

Back next year? It’s funny, like last year, I feel like I got really frustrated on this golf course playing some good golf and just not really able to get anything going as well. You know, then I went and played well at The Open Championship, Scheffler replied.

So it’s suiting me well over the years, but like I said, I haven’t played well here but I’ve played pretty well at The Open.

So it’s always a balancing — it could be one of those things where you just get over jet-lag, get used to new style of golf, new types of grasses, and maybe I just haven’t adjusted as quick, or maybe this golf course just doesn’t suit my eye much.

I’ll reflect on that kind of at the end of the year and assess what my plans are going into next season.

As Scheffler said, playing the Scottish Open before the Open Championship is a great way for the golfers to acclimatize to the time difference and links conditions.

It would be foolhardy for the world number one to miss the Scottish Open next year just because of one missed cut this year.

Scottie Scheffler comments on cut streak and plans for The Open

Scheffler responded when asked whether he is proud of his 78 consecutive cuts streak.

Yeah, it’s a little different now with some of the Signature Events not having cuts, he said.

But you know, this is — I don’t think I finished outside of the top 20 or something like that many times this year.

I’m definitely proud of the consistency, and wish I had a couple days over the weekend to make up some ground. But overall, get down to Birkdale a little earlier than expected and get used to a new course.

A little different than I was planning. Figure out how I get down to Birkdale and go from there.

Scheffler missing the cut at the Scottish Open may well end up being a nice little reset for him.

Would it really surprise anybody if he turns up at Royal Birkdale next week and wins? It certainly shouldn’t.
