Scottie Scheffler comments on what Hideki Matsuyama was like as a playing partner at the 3M Open

Scottie Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama both produced some scintillating golf on day three of the 3M Open.

Matsuyama got hot on the front nine, shooting a 30, while Scheffler scooted around the back nine in just 29 shots.

The American and the man from Japan are the two biggest names in the field this week and they lived up to that billing on Saturday at TPC Twin Cities.

Scottie Scheffler is currently sitting at 14-under after three rounds of the 3M Open, three strokes adrift of the leader, Jackson Koivun.

Meanwhile, Matsuyama is a further stroke back of the world number one.

The final round of the 3M Open should be a real thrill-ride, with so many players in with a chance of winning, and Scheffler and Matsuyama slotted in just behind the leaders.

The 30-year-old addressed the media after posting a brilliant third-round 64 on Saturday at TPC Twin Cities.

Scheffler was asked by one reporter how he found playing alongside the Japanese star this week in Blaine, Minnesota.

“Yeah, Hideki’s a pretty easy pairing,“ the world number one responded.

“He’s a good guy to get paired with.

“He stays pretty even keel, and he hits it really nice and plays at a good rhythm, so he’s always good to be out on the course with.“

After his third round, Scheffler was asked about the crowds at TPC Twin Cities so far this week.

“Yeah, the support this week’s been tremendous,” he replied.

“The crowd here has been great not only to myself, but to the guys I’ve been playing with as well. Yeah, I’ve been with Hideki the last few days and they’ve been supporting him as well.

“It’s been a really fun environment to be part of and looking forward to getting back out tomorrow.“

Scottie Scheffler has played alongside Hideki Matsuyama for three consecutive days at the 3M Open, but they won’t be paired together on Sunday.

However, it would be no surprise if one of those two wins the tournament, given their respective track records.
