Rangers have confirmed that defender Leon King has put pen to paper on a new contract at Ibrox, ending any interest in his services ahead of the January transfer window – prompting reaction from Antonio Colak and Scott Wright.

Rangers boss Michael Beale reported in a press conference on Wednesday that King would be signing a new deal in the next couple of days. 24 hours after his presser, Rangers have confirmed that King has penned a long-term deal.

It is unclear how long the contract will be in place for. But, it deters interest from Premier League clubs Leeds United, Newcastle United and Manchester United – all of whom have been scouting King, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Now, King looks set to build on the 27 senior outings he has made for Rangers. He took to Instagram to underline his delight at penning a new deal at Ibrox, ahead of Beale’s first game in charge of Rangers as manager on Thursday night.

King has been immense. Coming in to a side that were lacking at the back due to numerous injuries, he was a rookie. But he has shown plenty of quality. He is already beginning to turn potential into proven quality for Beale’s new side.

King is more than in with a shout of starting for Rangers on Thursday as they welcome Hibernian to Ibrox. Hibs will be desperate to spoil Beale’s party, but the Gers will be buoyed by a new manager. The atmosphere will be immense.

Heightened more so by the fact that any doubt regarding King’s future is now over. The new of King’s new deal saw top-scorer Colak and winger Wright respond to his Instagram post – the latter claiming it was “well deserved”.
