When you are attempting to take your club to the next level despite the financial restrictions that beset the domestic league, it helps when you have a manager of Brendan Rodgers’ calibre to attract big name players, the Daily Record reports.

The signing of French starlet Moussa Dembele from Fulham in the summer despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs offered a glimpse of the former Liverpool boss’ puling power.

But the addition of Scott Sinclair, the former Chelsea and Manchester City winger desperate to get his career back on track, offered definitive proof that Rodgers gives Celtic the edge in the transfer market.

Sinclair, who earned promotion to the Premier League alongside the Northern Irishman at Swansea City, could have earned bigger wages in England but the prospect of rediscovering his form under Rodgers’ guidance enticed him to move north of the border.

“I had played the best football of my career under him at Swansea and then there was a massive gap where I hadn’t shown what I can do,” Sinclair, who had previously been twiddling his thumbs on the Aston Villa bench, told the Daily Record.

“Now after reuniting with him I’m back to my best form. He was the reason I got the move to Manchester City and a lot of people seemed to forget that.

“So it’s nice to be back with a manager who likes you, supports you and essentially gives you the confidence to go out there and play.”

Sinclair has plundered 15 goals in 26 Scottish Premiership games this season, making 2016/17 the second most prolific campaign of his career.

In fact, only his debut campaign with Swansea, in which he scored 19 times to drag the South Welsh side into the top flight alongside Rodgers, ended with a higher goals tally.

However, if Celtic hadn’t managed to secure Rodgers’ signature last summer, it’s likely Sinclair’s career would still be stalling.
