Scott Sinclair has spoken to the Telegraph about his time at Manchester City and how it continues to motivate him as opposed to upsetting him.

Sinclair has been around for a long time now, having played for over a dozen clubs despite only being 27 years old. Throughout his career he has had some big highs and some even bigger lows, with one of the worst tenures being his time at City.

He played 90 minutes against his former club in the madhouse that was the 3-3 draw with the Citizens in the Champions league at Celtic Park on Wednesday night, and has been reflecting on his time at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Sinclair told the Telegraph: “I’m just looking to create and score goals. You have difficult times as a footballer, and that’s what happened to me at City. It was very tough, but hopefully now it’s brightening up a little bit. That’s behind me and I just take it as an experience.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve any regrets about joining City, because sometimes people make these moves and it works out, and that’s what I was hoping. It just didn’t for me.”

Sinclair went on to talk about how he would get frustrated about working hard and continually being left out of the squad for numerous games.

“Getting to the weekend, not being in the squad and training on your own with the physio, sometimes by myself, that was the hardest time,” he continued. “It went on for months and months. In my head I had to dig deep.

“I wouldn’t say I was harshly treated. I just happened to feel it a lot longer than most players. I’d probably say other players would have fallen out of love with the game, [seen out] their contract and that would be that, but I was still trying to be the best I can.”

The move to City followed an extremely successful period at Welsh club Swansea City, with the highlight being his hat-trick in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. Some believe that may have been the peak of the Englishman’s career, but he is experiencing a rejuvenation under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

After scoring in his first six league games for the club some fans are lauding him as the next superstar at Celtic Park, and so long as he remains focused there is no reason why he cannot reach the heights he achieved back at Swansea.
