Despite what the Celtic boss says, Scott Sinclair’s form has dipped – and signing Charly Musonda would give him something to think about.
According to The Daily Mail’s Transfer blog (15/01/2018, 10:37), Celtic are interested in signing Charley Musonda and could potentially buy him outright in a move which could and should give Scott Sinclair something to think about.
The highly-rated Chelsea starlet is struggling for first-team chances under Antonio Conte in West London and it seems like Brendan Rodgers is a fan of the 21-year-old winger.
If the Celtic boss views Musonda as a winger then surely it will be as competition for the out-of-sorts Sinclair, because James Forrest, on the right, is having the season of his career.
The 28-year-old does not quite look as menacing as he was throughout the whole of last season. When this was put to Rodgers last week, the Northern Irishman reminded critics of the fact that Sinclair still has 15 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season.
But sometimes statistics don’t paint an accurate picture and there is a feeling that his standard of performance has dropped, even if his individual numbers haven’t.
One way to force an improvement out of Sinclair would be to give him some real competition because, for now, there is none.
With Jonny Hayes and Patrick Roberts out of the picture, it doesn’t really matter how the former Swansea City man plays every week, because Rodgers will be forced to play him again the following week and it can’t be good for his motivation – or maybe lack thereof.
But signing Musonda would certainly be a big wake-up call and the youngster would cost £1 million more than Sinclair, if his £4.5 million valuation on Transfermarkt is accurate. He wouldn’t be short on motivation and the former England international could have a real fight on his hands.
