Celtic winger Scott Sinclair has revealed to the Daily Mail that manager Brendan Rodgers told his players they must be tougher after their 2-2 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Bhoys went into Sunday’s game having been through a mixed week; first beating Rangers 5-1 in the Old Firm derby, but then losing 7-0 to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

It looked like Rodgers’ side were going to respond in style as Tom Rogic opened the scoring for Celtic early on against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, only for former Rangers loanee Billy King to equalise.

Winger Sinclair then put Celtic back in front with his fifth goal in five league games for the club just ten minutes before half time, but there was a sting in the tail as Alex Fisher grabbed an 89th minute equaliser for Inverness.

Celtic remain top of the Scottish Premiership table, but to throw away two points so close to the final whistle will be a huge disappointment for Rodgers.

After the game, winger Sinclair spoke to the Daily Mail, and was asked just what manager Rodgers told his players at the final whistle after such a late goal.

Sinclair revealed that Rodgers told his players that they must be tougher in future, and must also be more clinical when they get chances in front of goal.

The former Aston Villa man, who joined the club last month, added that Celtic shouldn’t have to keep scoring to win and need to learn to close games out, and admitted that the result feels like a defeat.

“He was just saying we need to be tougher,” said Sinclair. “We didn’t lose the game but we should have won it. He basically just said we need to be tougher as a team going forward — and also more clinical in putting the chances away.”

“We shouldn’t be going into every game needing to win four or five nil every time. If we can’t get the third, we should have won the game 2-1. It is very disappointing. When we came in, all of the players had their heads down. To draw the game felt like a loss. When we came in, everyone was just so disappointed. But it’s still a point and we just have to move on to the next game,” he added.
