Celtic winger Scott Sinclair has explained to Herald Scotland the importance of Kolo Toure to the team.

Toure joined Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in the summer transfer window on a free after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old defender is past his best, but the former Ivory Coast international remains a good footballer who is going to be an asset to the Bhoys this season.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City centre-back has already started to show his quality and is becoming an important player for Brendan Rodgers’s side.

Sinclair played with Toure at City and has spoken highly of the centre-back.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Hoops from Championship club Aston Villa this summer for a transfer fee reported by The Glasgow Evening Times and The Daily Mail to be worth £3.5 million, has outlined how the former Liverpool defender is going to help the team this season.

“I’m not surprised Kolo has become such a big player for us because I have played with him at City and I know he has quality,” Sinclair told Herald Scotland about Toure.

“He showed that again in the first leg. He has a good personality too. He has played at some big clubs in his career so he can share that influence with the young players in the team and they can learn from him.”

Celtic won the first leg of their Champions League qualifying playoff tie against Hapoel Be’er Sheva 5-2 at Celtic Park last week.
