Celtic winger Scott Sinclair has told The Scottish Sun that his side can progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Englishman, who joined the Bhoys from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, made the comments following Celtic’s match against Manchester City at home on Wednesday evening.
The Scottish Premiership giants played out a 3-3 draw with City at Celtic Park in Group C.
Pep Guardioala’s side headed into the match in Glasgow as favourites, but the Hoops gave them a run for their money.
Sinclair believes that Celtic can finish in the top two of the group and book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
“I am sure we were very underestimated by everyone after our defeat in Barcelona, but there are always going to be critics,” Sinclair told The Scottish Sun. “We have just got to turn up like we did tonight.
“I don’t see any reason why we can’t now finish second. We need to keep going and get results. But it will give us confidence facing Borussia Monchengladbach next.”
Celtic are third in Champions League Group C with just a point from two matches.
Barcelona are at the top of the group with six points from two games, while second-placed City have collected four.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Premier League outfit City are the favourites to progress from the group.
Celtic are probably playing for the third spot, which will see them drop down to the Europa League.
Sinclair’s claim that Brendan Rodgers’s side can progress to the last 16 is quite confident and bold, but their performance against City suggests that they do have a small chance.
Much will depend on how Celtic fare away from Celtic Park in the Champions League group stage.
