How would Scott McTominay’s last six months have panned out had he moved to the Scottish Premiership with Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers?

It seems odd now but there was a time when Rangers were heavily linked with Scott McTominay.
In the months leading up to the January transfer window, the midfielder was regularly touted to join Rangers on loan.
But The Mirror reported in December that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho would block any move – loan or permanent – for the 21-year-old – and McTominay must be delighted that a transfer to Ibrox never materialised.
Not only has it been a very tumultuous last few months on the blue half of the Old Firm divide, which can’t make being a Gers player a barrel of laughs.

But the one-time Scotland international – who made his international debut in March – would not have been around to make the major impact that he has done under Mourinho during the second half of the campaign.
Such is McTominay’s transition to life in the Red Devils’ first team, the Portuguese manager honoured him at the club’s end-of-season awards bash by naming him as his Player of the Year on Tuesday.
The youngster, who started a last-16 Champions League tie in February, has come a long way since the speculation about a loan move to Rangers – and surely he is relieved that Mourinho kept him.
