Aston Villa should look to land Scott McTominay this month.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United could send midfielder Scott McTominay out on loan, with English and Scottish teams believed to be keen.
McTominay, 22, featured regularly under Jose Mourinho last season, but has struggled for the same playing time this term, playing just eight times.
Now, United may loan the Scotland international out if Marouane Fellaini stays this month, with Celtic and Aberdeen keen according to the Daily Record.
Another club recently interested was Aston Villa, with The Sun recently reporting that Villa and Leeds were both keen to take the giant 6ft 4in midfielder on loan.
Now, with McTominay potentially available, it’s time for Villa to think about putting themselves into the race to sign the midfielder this month.
Villa have been linked with a host of holding midfielders this mont, including Nemanja Radoja and Cheick Doukoure, though neither deal looks likely anymore.
Going closer to home in order to add McTominay could be a more straightforward deal, and Villa only have to point to how young players are flourishing on loan at Villa Park already.
United defender Axel Tuanzebe is thriving at Villa, as is Chelsea’s young striker Tammy Abraham, and they can show United that McTominay can improve under Dean Smith’s coaching.
One problem would be the loans already at Villa Park. Villa already have six loans this season, so landing another one means some may have to miss out on the matchday squad, with a maximum of five allowed – but if Villa really do want a holding midfielder, recent target McTominay may just fit the bill.
