Hull City and Aston Villa are said to have taken a shine to McKenna earlier this season.
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has signed another new contract – months after Hull City and Aston Villa allegedly sought to acquire his services.
The Scottish Sun reported in January that Villa were weighing up a bid for McKenna, after Hull’s £700,000 offer was knocked back by the Scottish Premiership runners-up.
But the 21-year-old, who agreed a new four-year deal as recently as the start of this season, looks like staying put for the foreseeable future after penning an extension until 2023.
McKenna told Aberdeen’s official website: “It was an easy decision. It was only mentioned to me last week, so it did not take at all long to get sorted. I love being at this club, I love working with the manager, all the staff and we have a great dressing room.
“I am very settled here and now I can just focus on my football.
“Football is all about looking forward and not looking backwards. I cannot relax and need to keep working hard so I can kick on. I still have a lot to learn in the game.”
Both Hull and Aston Villa were able to strengthen their options at centre-back before the close of the January transfer window.
However, the pair could well be in the market for further reinforcements this summer, with Hull’s Michael Dawson and Villa’s John Terry both out of contract, while Axel Tuanzebe’s loan to the Villans is also due to end.
Nevertheless, it will likely require a sizeable bid to prise McKenna from Pittodire.
