BBC pundit Scott McDonald has sung the praises of Celtic youngster Ewan Henderson for his performance during his side’s 4-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

The 18-year-old was handed his first senior start by Brendan Rodgers as he showed ‘maturity beyond his years’ to help his team secure a valuable three points in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

Winger Scott Sinclair opened the scoring after 31 minutes before Henderson assisted Odsonne Edouard for the second goal of the match. After the break, Gboly Aribiyi pulled a controversial goal back for the away team, but Edouard and Olivier Burke made sure of the points late on in the game.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland (24/02/2019 at 16:54), former Celtic striker McDonald was full of praise for Henderson, who was awarded the Man of the Match.

“He has shown maturity beyond his years,” McDonald told BBC Sport. “You say that all the time about these young players coming in, but he certainly has today. He’s not put a foot wrong. He’s just been excellent.”

The young midfielder’s performance proves that Rodgers still has the capabilities of bringing through youngsters and dominating Scottish football in the process.

Before kick-off, Rangers had closed the gap on their Old Firm rivals to five points after their thumping win at Hamilton, but Celtic soon restored their eight-point cushion.

They are still on course to win the treble-treble at the end of the campaign as nine title wins in a row beckon for the Bhoys from Glasgow.

Nonetheless, it was the first time Rodgers side had conceded a goal in the league since the Scottish Premiership’s return from a midwinter break.
