Neil Lennon watched on as Celtic recorded a valuable win at Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
BBC pundit Scott McDonald claims Neil Lennon would have been ‘furious’ with his Celtic players for the manner in which they started the second half following their 2-1 win at Hearts on Wednesday night.
The Bhoys were leading 1-0 going into the half-time break at Tynecastle, with Craig Levein’s men also down to 10 men after Jamie Brandon was sent off for an elbow.
But despite having the goal advantage and the player advantage, the Scottish Premiership leaders conceded a penalty before the hour mark, with Oliver Bozanic slotting home from the spot before Odsonne Edouard saved his side’s blushes by scoring the winner in stoppage-time.
Nonetheless, former Premiership striker McDonald shared what Lennon would have told his players in the dressing room during the break, but insisted he would not have been best pleased with what he saw.
“Neil Lennon will be furious,” McDonald told BBC Sport. “He will have said to them at half-time: go and kill this game off early doors and make it an easy night for yourselves. They were well in control of this game.”
Three points are three points for Lennon, who would have been pleased with the overall reaction his team provided given the abrupt departure of Brendan Rodgers leading up to this fixture.
Celtic are still eight points clear at the top of the Premiership table despite Steven Gerrard’s Rangers thumping Dundee on home soil on the same night.
The treble-treble is still on the cards for Celtic and Lennon will be hoping he can continue the work Rodgers has left behind as they aim to continue their dominance in Scotland’s top-tier.
Lennon, who left his post at Hibernian not long ago, will return to his old stomping ground at the weekend as the Bhoys aim to continue their winning streak in the league.
