Scott McDonald questions Celtic’s reported move for Timothy Weah

Celtic are reportedly closing in on a January deal that will see Timothy Weah join the Hoops on loan.

Scott McDonald has told BT Sport that he is not sure that Timothy Weah would be that good a signing for Celtic amid reports that the striker could be headed to Parkhead in January.

RMC Sport recently reported that the 18-year-old wishes to be loaned out by Paris Saint-Germain when the window opens next month, and heading to Celtic is his preferred option.

Brendan Rodgers’ men need another striker. Leigh Griffiths is out for the time-being and Moussa Dembele has not been replaced after leaving in the summer, leaving Odsonne Edouard as the one recognised forward left within the senior squad.

But McDonald has suggested that he has concerns as to whether Weah is the man to come in and fill the void that the Scottish Premiership champions need him to fill during the second-half of the campaign.

“If you’re a Celtic fan, are you really inspired by that? Timothy Weah coming through the door. You’re looking at him to score 10 to 15 goals by the end of the season. I’m not so sure,” he told BT Sport.

“You need someone that’s going to play. You can’t be one just to fill another jersey.”

In fairness to Weah, Edouard made the same move last season and turned out to be a very good signing for the Bhoys, netting 11 goals in all competitions. And he has already eclipsed that tally this time around.

And if Celtic do get Weah through the door, perhaps it should not surprise anyone if Rodgers decides to try and get another striker in before the window shuts anyway to ensure that they boast plenty of depth.
