Could Dave King face a battle for Rangers with Mike Ashley?

Newcastle United’s Mike Ashley has revealed to Sky News that a deal to sell the club could be done before the January transfer window – and one ex-Celtic man has a theory about his next move.
Ashley has been a hugely unpopular owner at St James’ Park for more than 10 years now, but the Magpies now have renewed hope that he can finally leave the club in the near future.
Ashley’s exit could free him up to pursue interests in other football clubs, and the leading name in that instance would undoubtedly be Rangers.
In 2014, Ashley had a small stake in Rangers, and attempted to take out a huge loan with Ibrox used as a security, which Gers fans unsurprisingly campaigned against.
Ashley sold his stake in 2017, but remains in a legal wrangle with current Rangers owner Dave King, with Sports Direct still involved in a battle with the Gers.

Now though, ex-Celtic striker Scott McDonald has taken to Twitter to suggest that, if Ashley goes leave Newcastle, he predicts that he will return with a new move for Rangers.
King won’t want to see Ashley return any time soon, but McDonald thinks Ashley will take on King for full control of Rangers in what would be a fascinating turn of events.
