Sheffield United new boy Scott Hogan has told the club’s official website that he thinks people have written him off due to his spell at Aston Villa.

Hogan, 26, was a sensation with Brentford, hitting 21 goals in 36 games for the Bees following a move from Rochdale in 2014.

The pacey forward earned himself a big-money move to Villa in January 2017, with many hoping that he would continue those goal exploits at Villa Park.

However, his time at Villa Park became something of a nightmare, scoring just 10 goals in 61 appearances, and even reuniting with his ex-Brentford boss Dean Smith couldn’t turn his fortunes.

It was therefore little surprise that Villa allowed Hogan to leave in January, but only on loan as Sheffield United swooped to sign him.

The Republic of Ireland international made his debut against Reading last weekend, and Blades fans hailed his performance as he looks to get his career back on track.

Now, Hogan has told United’s official website that he thinks people have written him off after struggling at Villa, and he’s using it as fuel to try and win promotion to the Premier League with Chris Wilder’s side.

Hogan added that he wants to silence his doubters and prove people wrong during his time at Bramall Lane, with the striker clearly unhappy with how he’s perceived in light of his spell at Villa.

“Everyone has a point to prove, but maybe I’ve been written off by a quite few people now,” said Hogan. “That doesn’t bother me at all, in fact it’ll fuel me to succeed here and my plan is to contribute to helping Sheffield United win promotion to the Premier League, if I do that it will silence the doubters.

“It will make people sit up and take note of me again because for whatever reasons sometimes it doesn’t work out for certain players at certain clubs. I’m just going to crack on, work hard and get my head down, I want to prove a hell of a lot of people wrong during my time here,” he added.
