Leeds earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Derby at Elland Road on Friday.

Scott Carson has had to pick the ball out of the net six times against Leeds United this season and he has told the Derby Telegraph that Frank Lampard’s men have to be more like his former side.

Following Leeds’ excellent 4-1 win at Pride Park in the second Championship fixture of the season, the Whites saw off Derby with a 2-0 win at Elland Road thanks to goals from Kemar Roofe and Jack Harrison.

It was arguably one of Leeds’ best performances under Marcelo Bielsa, but instead of the Argentine boss being praised, ‘El Loco’ has been criticised for ‘Spygate’ – after admitting to send one of his coaching staff to watch Derby train.

Carson, who began his career at Leeds and played three times for the Whites before joining Liverpool, believes his side need to be more like Bielsa’s men, who have thrived under a high-press, exciting style of football.

“We need to hold our hands up and work out how we can improve,” Carson said. “Leeds are a good side and are difficult to play against. They are a team that we need to aspire to be like if we want to achieve what we want to achieve.”

It is refreshing and somewhat surprising to hear Carson admit that his side were outplayed by Leeds, rather than discussing ‘Spygate’ which has caught the media by storm since Friday night’s match.

The EFL have launched an investigation into the incident after Derby complained, with Lampard seething in both his pre-match and post-match press conferences – despite claims that Chelsea did the same when he was a player.

It remains to be seen what ramifications are taken against the Whites, who remain at the top of the Championship and lead by four points – with Norwich City and Sheffield United both on 50 points in second and third.
