Southampton completed the signing of the midfielder from Celtic yesterday.
Southampton confirmed the signing of Stuart Armstrong from Celtic yesterday, in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £7 million, according to BBC Sport, and Hoops skipper Scott Brown offered high words of praise for the 26-year-old, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Mark Hughes will be a busy man during the transfer window this summer, and faces a seriously tough challenge, if he is to guide his Saints side back into the top 10 of the Premier League table this season.
The signing of Armstrong from Celtic is a great way to begin that quest, however.
The Scotland international chipped in with five goals and six assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side last term – a decent return for an orthodox central midfielder.
He will surely prove to be a great asset for Southampton this season, and his former teammate Scott Brown gave an insight into the kind of player that Saints fans can expect to see this season, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“We wish Stuart all the best – he has been fantastic for this club when he has played. But Stuart is a fantastic player, he knows what I think of him personally, and he will be a big miss for this club. He will relish the chance to go down to England to do well and I am sure he will do.”
In today’s day and age, £7 million for Armstrong seems like fantastic business from the Southampton, and it could turn out to be a real coup for the south coast club.
