Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has suggested to The Daily Record that he finds the current situation of Joey Barton at Rangers amusing.

Barton, who joined Rangers in the summer transfer window after leaving English club Burnley at the end of the 2015-16 season, is serving a suspension at the moment.

The former Newcastle United midfielder is set to miss the Gers’ game against Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-finals of Scottish League Cup at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon.

Celtic midfielder Brown believes that Rangers are a better team without Barton, and has also given his take on the current situation of the 34-year-old English midfielder at Ibrox.

“After the last performance, it’s quite amusing,” Brown told The Daily Record when asked about the Barton situation.

“He tried to wind the whole game up and for it to be about him but top-quality players have come into these games in the past and struggled. It’s always going to be hard for anyone if they are not going to do the work.”

“Yes, Rangers have improved without him – they have started to get a few results and a steady team and that’s better for them,” added Brown.

Back in June, Barton claimed on talkSPORT that Celtic midfielder Brown was not in his league.

The Englishman, though, failed to do much of note in the first Old Firm derby of the season last month.

Mark Warburton’s side, who won promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season, suffered a 5-1 defeat to Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership in September.
