Celtic have been battling to sign midfielder David Turnbull.
Celtic captain Scott Brown has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Celtic will take to David Turnbull if he plays well for the club should he finally sign.
The Bhoys struck a £3million deal with Motherwell last week to sign Turnbull, and many were excited about the talented teenager making the move to Parkhead.
However, Celtic released a shock statement on Twitter on Friday, claiming that they were unable to reach an agreement with the midfielder despite making a ‘fantastic’ offer.
Celtic have left that offer on the table for Turnbull to think about, and The Scottish Sun do now claim that he’s expected to finalise a deal with the Bhoys this week.
Turnbull enjoyed a superb season, hitting 16 goals and seven assists for Motherwell to become one of the top young talents in Scottish football, and his quality is exactly what Celtic have kept their offer on the table rather than backing away.
For the 19-year-old to be unsure about a move and then turn around and join Celtic may not go down well with some Bhoys supporters, and captain Brown has offered his view.
Brown believes that Celtic will still take to Turnbull if he performs well in a Bhoys jersey, feeling they won’t hold his indecision against him whilst reminding any unconvinced fans that Turnbull is just a kid.
Brown also thinks the changing room will welcome him too, attempting to play down any notion of unhappiness at Parkhead – both in the sands and the changing room – about the Turnbull saga.
“I think they’d take to anyone who does really well with the jersey on,” said Brown. “You have to remember David is only 19. His head and his emotions will be all over the place. You have to give him that leeway. There’s still time for him.”
“Everyone in that changing room would welcome him here because we have a great bunch of lads and I’m sure he’d be a great addition,” he added.
