Celtic captain, Scott Brown has told Sky Sports that it was easy coming up against Joey Barton in the Old Firm derby.

The two sides met at Celtic Park on Saturday in the first Old Firm derby in the league in four years.

The build-up to the game had been very much focused on Barton and Brown coming up against each other in the middle of the park, with the former claiming the Hoops star was not in his league.

However, it was Brown that came out on top as his side ran out 5-1 winners in the game.

And when questioned on the battle following the game, the midfielder said there was no such struggle.

“It was easy, it wasn’t a problem there was no battling whatsoever. I think it was more media. I made no issue of it. I think the scoreline talks for itself,” he told Sky Sports.

While Brown isn’t publicly making much of this success, it is likely he will be quietly delighted to have got one over Barton.

He has remained largely quiet while the Rangers midfielder has made his opinions clear on several separate occasions.

His performance in this game was the perfect way to respond to it and he will be keen to enjoy a similar performance when the two sides meet at Ibrox next time around.
