Scott Brown has told Sky Sports that Callum McGregor and James Forrest have been ‘in flames’ during Celtic’s pre-season training.

The Scotland pair had incredible 2018-19 campaigns on an individual and collective level.

Forrest bagged himself 15 goals and 11 assists across all competitions [ESPN] as Celtic won the treble Treble last term, while McGregor, who lost out to his Hoops team-mate in the Player of the Year stakes, registered a brilliant 14 assists overall under Brendan Rodgers and later Neil Lennon.

Both of them played for their country in Euro 2020 qualifiers against Belgium and Cyprus earlier this month and, as a result, captain Brown claims that both have simply picked up where they left off.

He told Sky Sports: “They’ve started well. Callum and Jamesie have been in flames. They’ve been away with Scotland so they’ve not lost their match fitness or sharpness. They look like they’ve never been away.”

If Celtic are to edge one Premiership title away the magical 10-in-a-row then McGregor and Forrest will have a big say in that next season.

It’s imperative that both players perform just as well – and consistently – under Lennon for the whole season as they did under Rodgers for nearly three years.
