Scott Brown has reportedly decided to stay at Celtic and sign a new contract.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Scott Brown has decided to turn down the chance to move to Australia and will instead sign a new deal with Celtic – with Western Melbourne investor Lou Sticca commenting on the midfielder’s reported decision.

Brown’s future has been a talking point for a while with his Parkhead contract expiring at the end of the season. The Record reports that he rejected a £40,000-a-week deal with Dubai-based side Al-Wasl, while Western Melbourne were also keen on bagging his signature ahead of their first A-League campaign.

But the 33-year-old is about to hand the Scottish Premiership champions a massive boost ahead of the final months of the season, with the Record reporting that he has decided to sign a two-year deal with the Hoops following talks with Peter Lawwell on Tuesday.

And Sticca – who is part of the consortium behind Western Melbourne – has seemingly confirmed that Brown’s decision is to stay with Celtic.

“We are delighted for Scott to extend his glorious career at Celtic,” he told the Record.

“While we are disappointed Scott will not be joining our inaugural campaign we fully understand what Celtic means to Scott and what Scott means to Celtic.”

Brendan Rodgers, manager of Celtic waves to fans during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and St Mirren at Celtic Park on January 23, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The news will provide a huge lift for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Brown remains a key player for Celtic, on and off the field. Losing him in the summer would have left the Bhoys with an incredibly difficult task.

And given how important he has been in recent years, it should surprise absolutely no-one if Brown remains a hugely influential figure around the club when his next deal starts to reach its conclusion.
