Celtic beat Old Firm rivals Rangers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Celtic won in the first Old Firm derby of the season as they beat Rangers 1-0 at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon, with Olivier Ntcham the match-winner.

The Bhoys came into the game having endured a less-than-ideal few weeks, with boss Brendan Rodgers frustrated with a lack of signings, the club crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of AEK Athens and then Moussa Dembele’s deadline day move to Lyon on Friday.

With Rangers buoyant under new boss Steven Gerrard having gone 12 games unbeaten, some were left believing that the Gers could spring a surprise on Celtic this afternoon – but the Bhoys re-asserted their dominance with a superb display.

Rodgers’ side were relentless in the first half and were virtually camped in the Rangers half, but hit the woodwork three times before finally breaking Gerrard’s men down in the second half.

With Rangers attempting to push forward more, they were caught out at the back, as midfielder Ntcham finished off a sweeping counter-attack to wrap up a 1-0 victory for Celtic – yet in truth, it could and possibly should have been more emphatic.

Celtic fans will have been jubilant heading into work this morning, and the win clearly meant a lot to their players too, with captain Scott Brown leading the celebrations on Instagram, posting a photo alongside ‘the Bhoys’ – homegrown duo Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor and striker Leigh Griffiths.

Match-winner Ntcham and fellow Frenchman Odsonne Edouard also celebrated the win on Twitter, with the latter proclaiming that Glasgow is staying green after yet another Celtic victory.
