Celtic beat Linfield 2-0 in the Champions League on Friday night.

Scott Brown has paid tribute to Celtic fans after a number of supporters made the trip to Linfield on Friday night, after speaking to Sky Sports.

Celtic put one foot in the next round of Champions League qualifiers with a 2-0 win away to the Northern Irish outfit, with Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic scoring first-half goals.

The Scottish Premiership champions did not allocate any tickets to their fans amid safety concerns, with a number of Orange Order marches taking place in Belfast this week due to the Twelfth of July celebrations in the Irish city.

Nevertheless, a small number of fans were present in a virtually-empty away end at Windsor Park last night, and Brown was delighted to see the team given some suppport.

He told Sky Sports: “It was delightful to see the fans over. They were advised to stay away but they still came and it was great.

“No matter where we go, the Celtic fans are fantastic, they follow us everywhere, home and away, so it was fantastic to see them.

“The performance wasn’t that great but the main thing was we got the two goals.”

Both teams do it again at Celtic Park next week but Brendan Rodgers’s side should definitely progress into the next phase of qualifiers, in what will be a calmer occasion.
