Could reported Aberdeen target Shaun Maloney return to Celtic in the summer transfer window?

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has been quoted as saying by The Scottish Sun that he is open to the idea of Shaun Maloney returning to the club.

Maloney started his professional club football career at Celtic and played for the Glasgow giants until 2007 before moving to Aston Villa in England.

The 34-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, returned to Celtic Park in 2008 and featured for the Hoops until 2011.

Now without a club following his departure from Hull City at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, Maloney has been linked with a move back to Celtic in the summer transfer window.

According to The Daily Mail, the Scotland international is being lined up as a coach for the Celtic Under-20 team.

Celtic’s Scottish Premiership rivals, Aberdeen, want to sign the attacker in a playing capacity and are in talks with him, according to the report.

Celtic midfielder Brown played with Maloney at the Hoops, and the 32-year-old Scotland international is open to the idea of having the former Wigan Athletic and Chicago Fire man at Celtic Park.

“He was in looking at the facilities and seeing the gaffer’s coaching,” The Scottish Sun quotes Brown as saying about Maloney. “The wee man would be brilliant. I had some great times with him. He will bring class.”
