Celtic today confirmed what has seemed inevitable for many months by wrapping up the Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic captain Scott Brown has told the club’s official website that the victory over Motherwell in early December should go down as the defining three points during a campaign which has now seen the Scottish Premiership title wrapped up with eight games still to go.

Brendan Rodgers’ men confirmed the incredible achievement – their sixth top flight crown in a row – with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle, the ground where their league campaign began with a 2-1 win in August.

And while there have been 28 wins to pick from, Brown suggested that the dramatic victory over Motherwell played a crucial part in ensuring that they wrapped up the title so quickly and have got within touching distance of going through the entire domestic season unbeaten.

“To go 2-0 down and you just think everyone is going to crumble, but the gaffer changed the formation and tactics. We went to a 3-4-3 and we battered Motherwell in the second half. We got to 2-2, went 3-2 down and then scored the two goals we needed,” he told the club’s official website.

“At half time, we sat down and looked around the dressing room and everyone believed we could score two or three goals and get ourselves back in the game. That was the moment that really shaped our season.”

As Brown alluded to, Celtic went into the break 2-0 down and were briefly 3-2 behind with 19 minutes to go. However, Stuart Armstrong equalised before Tom Rogic scored a stoppage-time winner against Well to edge the scintillating game.

That was surely the closest the Hoops have come to losing their unbeaten record, and undoubtedly highlighted the fighting spirit within the squad which perfectly complements the quality that has seen them blow away teams on a regular basis this term.
