Scott Brown has told Celtic’s official website that he thought that Scott Bain was fantastic during the Hoops’ stunning win over Rangers at Ibrox that saw Brendan Rodgers’ men practically shut the door on the Gers in the title race.

The Hoops went into the fixture six points clear of their bitter rivals so knew that losing to Graeme Murty’s men may have many suggesting that the race was definitely on heading into the final weeks of the season.

And it appeared at various stages throughout the game that the home side would close the gap as Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias helped put the Light Blues in front twice. But goals from Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele and a late winner from Odsonne Edouard ensured that Rodgers’ side maintained their impressive record since Rangers’ promotion.

There was still drama to come however, as Alfredo Morelos missed an open goal from a couple of yards. The incident left the Celtic players congratulating Scott Bain after he produced a brilliant stop from Windass before gathering up the ball following Morelos’ miss.

Bain – who signed for Celtic on loan during the January transfer window – was solid throughout the contest, making a handful of impressive stops despite going into the game still awaiting his debut for the Bhoys.

And after the game, Brown suggested that he was hugely impressed by the goalkeeper’s performance and praised the way he handled the occasion of making his first appearance in an Old Firm derby.

“I thought Bainy was fantastic in goals, including the save he made from Morelos on the line after it had the post and come back out. It was great for him in his first game, chucked in at the deep end, and he dealt with it very well,” he told the club’s official website.
