Neil Lennon’s Celtic were held to a goalless Scottish Premiership draw against Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen at Parkhead.

Scott Brown of Celtic celebrates following the Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Scott Brown has admitted that a lack of fluency cost Celtic dear against Aberdeen on Saturday, in quotes reported by the Evening Times.

The Hoops were far from their best against Derek McInnes’ Dons at Parkhead with Neil Lennon unable to win for the first time since returning to Glasgow as Brendan Rodgers’ short-term replacement.

The champions were strangely flat in front of their home supporters as they failed to extend their lead at the top to 10 points. Aberdeen arguably had the better chances and were unfortunate not to spoil Lennon’s emotional homecoming.

And captain Brown has indicated that Celtic never got into their rhythm – factor that allowed The Dons to pick up a credible clean sheet.

“It was disappointing that we never found our fluency at any point against Aberdeen but I don’t think we can dwell too much on it,” said the influential skipper.

“We were disappointed to drop points against Aberdeen on Saturday but we have had a good run at it and it is about making sure that we dust ourselves down and get ready to go again.”

Scott Brown of Celtic is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Hibernian and Celtic at Easter Road on April 21, 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Fortunately for Celtic, Rangers also slipped up this weekend, drawing 1-1 away at Lennon’s former employers Hibernian at Easter Road.

This means that The Bhoys look certain to pick up and eighth successive Scottish Premiership title this season, although they have often been far from their best.

Lennon is due to remain in charge until the summer and it remains to be seen whether he will be handed the job on a full-time basis.

Celtic's new interim manager Neil Lennon is unveiled at Celtic Park on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.
