Scott Brown backs Celtic star for Scotland call.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and Callum McGregor celebrate winning the Scottish Premiership
Scott Brown has hailed Celtic teammate Callum McGregor after his starring performance against Rangers.
McGregor netted in Celtic’s 2-0 win at Hampden Park, and Brown told The Scotsman after the game that he feels his colleague is deserving of a call up to the national squad.
McGregor’s goal was his fourth of the season, with the midfielder becoming a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Brown said: “I don’t see why Callum can’t be involved for the England game, look at the way he’s playing just now. He’s in fantastic form
“Look again today at the way he was receiving the ball, with his back to the man, keeping control of it, turning and using it very well. What a a finish for his goal.
“Callum’s an unsung hero, but not within the squad. We know how good he is and he’s appreciated by all of the boys.”
Celtic’s Scott Brown celebrates
McGregor has never been capped by Scotland but he has put together a convincing case to turn this around this season.
In addition to his four goals he has eight assists, and crucially like Celtic teammate Brown he has developed a crucial habit – winning games.
Scotland would be smart to get him in alongside Scott Brown and give him a chance to replicate his club form.
The 23-year-old is getting better and better, building on an already encouraging campaign last season.
