Celtic’s James Forrest is bang in form at the moment.
Scott Brown has told Celtic’s official website that it’s about time for everybody to stop underestimating James Forrest.
The Celtic winger scored a brilliant hat-trick on Tuesday as Scotland beat Israel 3-2 to clinch a playoff spot for Euro 2020 qualifying.
In doing so, the 27-year-old took his haul to five goals in the last two games for his country, having also scored a brace in the 4-0 drubbing of Albania last week.
Domestically, Forrest has managed seven goals and five assists across all competitions this season, underlining his role as a massive player for manager Brendan Rodgers.
He has come on leaps and bounds since Rodgers took the reins at Parkhead in 2016, and Brown, a £4.4 million signing by the Bhoys in 2007 [The Guardian], says his team-mate deserves unanimous respect.
“Whether you’re struggling as a team for form, or whether you’re on fire, James will take the ball up the park and beat a couple of players and create chances for other people.
“Anyone that thinks James is a player who could drop in and out of a team – he should be considered the main man, and he’s also capable of scoring goals.
“People have underestimated James Forrest throughout his entire career, and he keeps coming back and proving them wrong. You’ve got Ryan [Christie] who does it at both ends, and you’ve got James who’s just on a different level.”
Celtic’s best player? At the moment, for sure.
Rodgers has plenty of other very talented footballers in his ranks, not least captain Brown, but as of now Forrest is probably the most valuable and if he keeps playing like this, a move down South might beckon, even if Hoops fans hate the notion of losing him.
