Celtic beat Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday to move nine points clear of the Scottish Premiership side.

Scott Brown has admitted to The Scottish Herald that his game-changing assist in Celtic’s 3-2 win at Rangers on Sunday was actually intended as a clearance.

Moussa Dembele latched on to Brown’s long ball to lob Wes Foderingham on the stroke of half time and ensure that both Old Firm rivals went into the break level at 2-2.

It was a key moment in the match, but Brown, who was deep in his own half at the time of playing the ball, admitted that the ‘pass’ was actually just an attempt to clear the ball down field amid pressure from Daniel Candeias at the time.

“I saw Moussa’s run! No, it was a clearance! It was a great finish from Moussa,” he told The Scottish Herald.

“They were always trying to get tight to us. There were a few fouls and stuff like that but it is always going to happen when you play here against Rangers.”

Jozo Simunovic got sent off early in the second half to give Brendan Rodgers’s side a bit of a mountain to climb, but Odsonne Edouard came off the bench to curl home a wonderful winner and embarrass Rangers.

The Gers had enough chances to win the game comfortably, and missed another huge chance to nick a point toward the end when Alfredo Morelos hit the post from point-blank range, and the cream ultimately rose to the top.

Rangers will get the chance to make things right next month when Graeme Murty’s side face the Hoops again in a Scottish Cup semi-final, but psychologically, losing to Celtic must have been a damaging experience under the circumstances.
