Celtic captain Scott Brown has told The Scottish Sun that he ‘definitely’ thinks Scott Bain can replace Fraser Forster.
The Bhoys saw Forster star last term as he made a season-long loan return from Southampton, turning in superb displays.
Forster is now heading back to Southampton, and it seems unlikely that he will be re-joining Celtic as things stand right now.
With Craig Gordon gone too, Celtic may need to bring in not one but two goalkeepers to bolster Neil Lennon’s ranks this summer.
Lennon does though have one senior goalkeeper at the club already. Scott Bain is waiting in the wings, but was barely seen this past season.
The 28-year-old stopper arrived from Dundee in 2018, and displaced Gordon under Brendan Rodgers before making just two league appearances last term.
With goalkeepers being linked with the club, Bain seemingly isn’t being primed to take over from Forster, but he has received backing from Brown.

Brown claims he and the Celtic squad would trust Bain to be first-choice, praising him for his form in 2018 and branding him a ‘top goalkeeper’.
“We’d trust Bainy to do the business, definitely,” said Brown. “He came in and was brilliant for us when he arrived. He was chucked in at the deep end at Ibrox. Dorus de Vries got injured the day before and Bainy went straight in and he saved us that day, to be honest. He kicked on from there and he was fantastic for us in that run-in — as he has been whenever he’s been asked to play. Bainy never lets anyone down and I’m sure he’ll step up if he plays this week, the next or whenever.”
“He’s a top goalkeeper, he is very composed with the ball at his feet and he’s a shot-stopper. Bainy’s a good one to have, and if he starts the season then I’m sure the lads would be delighted with that. I’m sure he will be pushing himself regardless of whether someone else comes in or not to try to focus on getting that No 1 jersey,” he added.
