Scott Brown has told Sky Sports that new Celtic signing Odsonne Edouard will get a lot better in the coming years.
Celtic broke their transfer record on bringing the 20-year-old striker back to Parkhead last week.
The Hoops spent around £9 million [The Scotsman] on signing Edouard on a permanent deal, after he spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan from PSG and netted 11 goals across all competitions.
The fact that he is Celtic’s most expensive-ever player indicates that manager Brendan Rodgers envisages a bright future for the young hitman.
And club captain Brown, a £4.4 million signing from Hibernian in 2007 [The Guardian], is “delighted” by the capture and reckons that his team-mate will “develop a lot” more shortly.
He told Sky Sports: “He will develop a lot under the great coaching team that’s here. I think that’s what the manager sees in him.
“He is young and he’s a great prospect as well. That’s kind of the way football is going as well, we need the pace and qualities of youth. Especially when you have got me in the team.
“He’s a great lad in the dressing room and he showed his qualities on the park. He shows it in training every day and he showed it on the big stage as well.
“It’s great he has come and great that he wanted to be here after last season as well. I am delighted he came back in.”
Having cost £9 million, Rodgers might be under pressure to make Edouard his first-choice striker, which begs questions about Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths’s role in Glasgow next term.
Dembele has often been linked with a move away from the Bhoys and a sale could finally materialise this summer, while Griffiths is certainly good enough to rival Edouard if it is just the two of them next season.
