Scott Bain has started Celtic’s last three matches in place of Craig Gordon.

Scott Bain has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that he is surprised he is getting a chance at Celtic.

Bain was brought in at Celtic a year ago, and his entire time at Parkhead he has effectively been a back-up choice to Craig Gordon.

However, in recent weeks, Brendan Rodgers appears to have made Bain his number one.

The 27-year-old stopper has started in Celtic’s last three matches across all competitions.

And Bain now wants to hold down his place in Celtic’s starting team.

“I had a chat with the manager but it was still a surprise when you look at the level of performances Craig puts in. I can’t complain.

“We all train as if we are going to play on a Saturday. So we are always ready if we need to play.

Scott Bain of Celtic warms up ahead of his debut prior to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on March 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“It’s the unfortunate life of a goalkeeper that only one can play at a time. I’ve had to bide my time on the bench and work hard away from playing. It’s good to get a run in the team now.”

Bain has kept clean sheets for Celtic in all three of his most recent appearances, with the Bhoys proving very difficult to score against.

Whether Rodgers will keep faith in Bain over Rodgers for the long-term remains to be seen.

Celtic are next in action tomorrow evening, when they take on St. Johnstone at Parkhead.
