Is Scott Bain going to be Celtic’s third-choice goalkeeper when he’s fit again?

It’s already been a rotten season for Celtic’s Scott Bain.

The former Dundee goalkeeper had a terrible start to the 2019-20 campaign and posted quite a few questionable performances.

Then the Celtic star dislocated his thumb, sidelining him for a month and he still isn’t back.

But if Bain thinks it’s already been bad, then it could get a lot worse for him.

That’s because Celtic have re-signed Fraser Forster on a season-long loan from Southampton and he’s comfortably Neil Lennon’s first-choice keeper.

It’s a battle between Bain and Craig Gordon for the number two spot, but Gordon is set to face Partick Thistle tonight and if the veteran impresses then it’s very possible that the 27-year-old will be Lennon’s third-choice when he returns from injury.

Having started the season as number one, it’ll be a huge shock to the system for Bain if he goes from having the gloves every week to not even making the squad.

Lennon will give him the chance, after admitting earlier this year that he’s a ‘big fan’ of the Brendan Rodgers signing [club’s official website].

But it’s advantage Gordon in the race to be Forster’s understudy and a solid showing in the League Cup tonight could well indicate that Bain isn’t coming back to much when he is fit.
