Scott Bain says that he got to know that he would play for Celtic against Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox only on the day of the Old Firm derby.

Scott Bain’s performance for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby last weekend was universally hailed, and it is hard to imagine the 26-year-old getting dropped from the Hoops’ next competitive fixture.

The Scottish Premiership game at Ibrox last Sunday afternoon was Bain’s debut for the Hoops since his loan move from Dundee in the January transfer window.

What is remarkable about the former Aberdeen prospect is that he got to know that he was playing in the Old Firm derby only on the morning of the game.

Bain told The Scotsman: “I woke up on Sunday morning with a text saying that I was playing.

“I knew Dorus was struggling and then word came through at 8am that he was out. I had plenty of time to get myself right and focused on the game.”

Bain’s aforementioned comments underline his quality and his mental strength, and it is another reason why Celtic should look at the possibility of securing his services on a permanent contract in the summer of 2018.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops want to sign Bain on a free transfer at the end of the season, as do Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian.

The former Alloa Athletic goalkeeper showed against Rangers that he has the mentality to play for Celtic, and that he can be ready to wear the shirt on short notice.

Celtic should make Bain a permanent signing in the summer of 2018, especially as he would be a free agent at the end of the season.
